Tache's curatorial programme debuts with Fantastical Autonomy, an exhibition of new and recent works by painter, photographer and jazz musician Jorge Jobim.
The exhibition centres a spectrum of large-scale oil paintings: psychedelic in composition and palette, and buoyed by the rhythms of the city in which Jobim lives and works.
For Jobim, painting and jazz exist in close quarters – both are performative practices, and one aids the other. Each canvas betrays an inherent musicality, as colours, shapes and chimeric figures collide in dances of visual harmonics.
Jobim graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art, London, in 2023, and has since worked on commission for The Museum of London and participated an artist residency in Chengdu, China. In 2024, Jobim’s works were selected for exhibition at Fruityspace, Beijing, .TAG, Chengdu, and XLY MoMA, Chengdu.
